As America is so conflicted, we need to look at the real heroes. They are not basketball players, movie stars, or singers. They are every day people risking their lives to improve the communities, states, and our nation.

We have some examples here.

Bend, Oregon Safeway employee 66 year old Donald Ray Surrett gave his live to stop a gunman who entered the store August 30, 2022. Surrett faced off the gunman with only a produce knife and was shot and killed. An 84 year old customer and Surrett were killed in the attack. Police believe the gunman would have killed more people if Surrett had not tried to disarm the shooter. The shooter took his own life after shooting the customer and Surrett. Bob Maxwell fought in World War Two. He grabbed a blanket and threw his body on a German hand grenade thrown into a communications center. Maxwell lost part of his foot in the blast, but survived.  He died in Bend on May 11, 2019, at the age of 98. Read his story on Wikipedia.
